Manchester's New Year's Roundup

 

With New Year’s Eve creeping up right behind the festive season, this celebration can become another burden when you're try to plan an event to remember. To help you on your way, we’ve put together a list of some of the best places to go in Manchester to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

Revolver at the Roadhouse

Want to enter 2012 with some classic motown, 60’s pop, rock ‘n’ roll and ska? Head down to the roadhouse for a night of retro funk playing the likes of the Kinks, The Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan and much more. Funkademia at Mint Lounge

Fancy a soul-funk welcome into 2012? Funkademia will be pulling out all the stops at Mint Lounge in the Northern Quarter, providing yet another sold-out New Year’s celebration of soul, hip-hop, funk and disco. The main arena will be hosted by Gareth Brooks (XFM) and Les Croasdaile whist the Baby Funk Room will be hosted by Dance Lady Dance, providing a night to remember! Tickets cost £10. Opera at the Bridgewater Hall

Boasting a red carpet welcome, the Bridgewater Hall will be hosting a dining event for those who want it, followed by a night of opera favourites sung by Irish soprano Ailish Tynan and tenor Andrew Staples. As a perfect crescendo, there will be a inspiring Last Night of the Proms Finale to leave you ready to face 2012. The event is red carpet wear, giving you the opportunity to unveil your best attire. Homo Electric at Gullivers

Set in the underworld of the northern quarter, Homo Electric is setting up a special night with Jamie Bull, Will Tramp! and Trash-O-Rama where anyone of any sexual orientation is welcome. With a slogan describing the night as 'a non-stop exotic disco for sleazy twisted people' you can expect something a bit different at this wild and funky night! The event will take place in Gullivers on Oldham St. Doors open 10pm - 3am. Tickets cost £12 + booking fee and can be bought here - the space is only at a 200 capacity so get your tickets as soon as! NYE Ball at The Birdcage

Start 2012 is style with a diva fest of disco, live drag and showgirl cabaret throughout the night. The party starts from 9pm until late. Nyte Heet at Retro Bar

Fancy an alternative night for New Year's? If you're into your classic and glam rock and metal then head down to the infamous Nyte Heet! Dance the night away to power ballads headbang to some gritty metal, all whilst expecting some special treats to entice you into the new year including a buffet! Doors will open from 10pm - 4am. Federation at HMV Ritz

Holding an epic NYE/NYD event, Federation has been asked back to its old home to test drive the newly refurbished club including a brand new sound system and lighting. Opening its doors at 3am and going on into New Year’s Day, Federation will be pulling out all the stops as one of the most popular club nights around celebrates its return. Tiger Tiger

Capital FM’s Rob Ellis will be head DJ at Tiger Tiger in the Printworks this New Year’s. With six bars, a restaurant, ambient lighting and a multi-coloured dance floor, Tiger Tiger is one of the funkiest places to be on the 31st December. Juicy New Years at the Ruby Lounge

Juicy’s very own Oscar Wildstyle and Wiggie Smalls will be taking over the Ruby Lounge on December 31st to give you a night of classic hip-hop, disco and funk. Kaluki at Sankeys

The NYE Jackathon has an explosion of musicians hosting the Kaluki electronic house music event of the year. Expect a line-up to keep you dancing into the early hours with the amazing Maceo Plex, Heidi, Lauhaus, Darius Syrossian, Ellesse and Jozef K. Tickets cost £25 and it is best to buy early. Doors open at 11pm – 6am, last entry 4am.

 

Stand Up at The Comedy Store

Tired of the clubs and pubs for New Years? Why not try a bit of comedy to have you laughing your way into 2012: With the likes of Justin Moorhouse, Andrew Ryan, Alex Boardman and Alun Cochrane hosting the night’s entertainment there will be something for everyone. The Comedy Store’s friendly and cosy bar provides the perfect space to chat, whilst their downstairs stage with retro seating makes sure that you’ll never miss out on the action! Casino Royale New Years at Bijou Club

In association with Mode, this New Years event is set in the slick and elegant Bijou Club on Chapel St where you are invited to take part in this BOND themed affair. Attire is to be fashionable and chic as you make your way around the club, taking part in the casino tables and admiring the ice sculptures. There will also be a fireworks display and plenty of music to have you dancing and drinking in style! Early bird tickets have gone, but be sure to get yours hands on standard (£30) and VIP (£45) ones left! The tickets will also allow you entry into the Official Pre-Party at The Living Room. Manchester Fireworks

The City Centre will be an explosion of coloured lights as the council present an outdoor party like no other. The best place to see the sights will be at Hardman Square which is situated next to the Spinningfields big screen. On the stroke of midnight, fireworks will be launching from Quay House. Be sure to get there early to get a good place, and bringing a blanket to keep you warm is recommended! With transport running throughout the night getting home shouldn’t be a problem, and to top it off this event is free – what more could you ask for?
